Koryû Enbu in Besançon (France) on July 1, 2017

On July 1st, 2017 a Koryû Enbu was held in Besançon in eastern France (around 80 km from the swiss border).
It is a striking place for a Koryû Enbu as the city had a significant military importance throughout its history. I was told that even today the city holds the biggest garrison of the french army. And the famous military engineer Marquis de Vauban (1633 – 1707) built here the gorgeous Citadel of Besançon.

In total twelve classical japanese martial schools demonstrated their arts for the public.

  • Asayama Ichiden-Ryû
  • Daitô-Ryû Aikijûjutsu
  • Hôki-Ryû Nakazono-ha
  • Hokushin Ittô-Ryû Hyôhô
  • Hontai Yôshin-Ryû Jûjutsu
  • Hôzôin-Ryû Takada-ha
  • Kashima Shinden Jikishinkage-Ryû
  • Katayama-Ryû Jûjutsu
  • Musô Jikiden Eishin-Ryû
  • Suiô-Ryû Iai-kenpo
  • Tenjin Myôshin-Ryû
  • Tenshin Shôden Katori Shintô-Ryû

The level of the participants was very high and this was definitely one of the best Enbu on european soil.

The proceeds of this event went in full to the UNICEF and I believe all the attendees can stand behind this good cause.
After the event we all have been invited to some snacks and local delicacies! Later on most of us went to the city center for some drinks and it was really nice to catch-up with acquaintances and meet new people.

I was told by the organizers that it is planned to have this event on a yearly basis in Besançon. Personally, I am looking forward to it!

And here just a small potpurri of some of the Ryûha in no particular order.
